INFINITELY NEAR POINT
jULY, 2025
“The leaves still fall, the sand still goes into the sea.
Our systems are still a cacophony of vessels.
Your heart still fails you.
And you still move.
The void is filling“
Infinitely Near Point is a movement and text investigation on the mediocre developed by PedroAfoxso and nara as an extension of their 2022 duet 4,9/10, in its scrambled subjective meanings and poetics, and on the relationships art and art-makers build with the wide, often contradicting standards that measure, place and contain it. We were curious about what it means to create mediocre art intentionally, but sincerely: How to source and unbare our own mediocrities? What is the border between what feels mediocre and what is mediocre (if anything is)? How to remain mediocre across all critical currents, or, on the other hand, find something that cracks the judgement binary? Most of all, how to keep making, sharing and cherishing, flawed, incomplete, deformed, mismatched, genuine art.
In the work, two mediocre artists set out to defend their ground, laying bare the mediocrity that, for various reasons, they hold â and wish to hold dear. This means escaping good, evading bad, and encountering a place of perennial in-between. As they are engulfed by this vulnerable space, they rip through systems of value that have kept them afloat but floating, in hopes of finding different shores.
The performance lands on a collection of punches, clichĂ©s, partner dances, talent shows, homages and other attempts at claiming mediocre space. Hopefully, some of them get there. And if they donât â well, thatâs kind of the point.
Infinitely Near Point was created as part of an independt research from the artists and debuted in Amsterdam at the Plein Theater in July 2025.
