Trilogy

ALOPECOID originally started as an album-inspired project. The structural setting of an album caught my attention, the ability to address a multitude of topics and personal experiences through tracks while encapsulating them in one artistic piece, the album. It is this independent existence that caught my eye: a track can exist and hold itself independent from the album, but it also gains a new existence and interpretation within it. What happens when you try to bring this music industry structure to an ephemeral art space such as the stage? ALOPECOID – meaning “like a fox” – became then a series of “performative tracks” where text, movement, spoken-word and video came together to form a live performative album.

But can this fragmented independence take one step further? If a track can exist outside of the album, then so can the text, or the movement, or the audio. In a way, this also happens in music, the vocals carry their own existence, separate from the melody or the guitar. ALOPECOID then became not just a stage project but a source of output for each of my artistic professions to have their independence within the same work. A spoken word album: ALOPECOID: LATENT PREDATOR; a live performance: ALOPECOID: AGILE SEEDING; and a book ALOPECOID: CUNNING REBELLION.

The creative process for the work was led by a period of improvisation-based movement and writing while listening to a different album every day. This allowed me to find out what the work would be about rather than deciding it beforehand. After 83 albums, there were certain topics and associated movements that kept repeating themselves and eventually gave birth to the 8 sub-categories of the work. A set of these texts were organized for each sub-category making them chapters and then a fully realized book, one text from each chapter was then reworked as a piece of spoken word and record into an 8-track album. Finally, the stage performance gathered the movement and video work and performed the full album joined by excerpts from the book.

Then there is the collective existence of the work. From queer expression, addiction and sexual grief to questionings of artistic labor and socio-political reflections, the album was designed as an introduction to the artist, a stamp in time of who I am at that moment, by itself this was already a collective statement: The constant mutation of the singular requires instruments of expression to define values and statements true to ourselves in a specific timeline. Furthermore, there was a revolutionary undertone within it. The name ALOPECOID, was chosen as a symbol of the cunning and rebellious fox within each of us. A reminder of the often dormant revolutionary nature of humans. For me, this nature came linked to my queer roots, my addiction and my issues with the economic system. Whatever the topic, the act of making it known to yourself and others awakens the need to do something about it, to revolutionize. Like  the primal hunter waiting in the shadows, waiting for the moment when its claws will come out.

ALOPECOID: Agile Seeding

A foxlike humanoid persona awakens in movement and spoken word spreading a seed of revolution via ALOPECOID’s 8 scenes. PedroAfoxso’s storytelling of grief, addiction, sexuality and labor intertwines with socio-political reflections as he searches for hope in the lived torment that shapes this artistic introduction. Agile Seeding is a live process designed to ignite the rebellious roots tucked away in the subconscious.

The live performance of ALOPECOID debuted at the Plein Theater in Amsterdam on February 13^th 2026 and has been touring since.
